Sigrun

Sigrun is a
Dornish woman of only 19 years. She is tall and muscular, with long
scarlet hair and striking cobalt eyes. Fair skinned, she often sports the
bright blue woad paint traditional to many Dornish tribes. The young woman
has more scars than perhaps someone of her age and gender should bear, but
she makes no effort to hide any of them.
This proud warrior is a member, “by blood only” she would quickly say, of
the ignoble House Pendor. Ashamed of their clan’s collaborative history,
Sig and her two brothers fled Bastion when she was only 13. Together they
ran west, into the hills south of Steel Hill, where they were able to join
one of the many bands of Dornish rebels that make their way by raiding
caravans and ambushing Orc war parties. It was a rough childhood, and
Sigrun grew into adulthood only by learning the way of the sword and
adopting the mantle of the Dornish berserker.
The Shadow quickly tired of these raids, and redoubled efforts to crush
the insurgents. So it was that on a fall morning her band was enveloped
and destroyed by a strong force of Orcs and Ogres. Both of Sigrun’s
brothers were killed, and all but two other members of the band were
slain, or worse, taken.
Narrowly escaping, the three raiders fled south. When they were finally
able to rest the group split over how to proceed. One of the men, Valkind,
hung himself from a bare, dead tree in despair, in a manner legends say
one of their ancient gods had done. The other man, tired of the meager
life of a bandit, returned to Bastion, and what became of him Sigrun does
not know.
The Dorn wandered for a while, living off the land and on the hospitality
of northland peasants and farmers who, deep in their hearts, respect
rebels for the proof they offer that the noble spirit of their race is not
dead. She began to hear stories of Roland Redgard, the heir to House
Redgard, who struggles to reclaim his clan’s ancestral home city of Cale.
Inspired at the thought of a clan fighting back against Izrador, Sig
journeyed west toward Cale, hoping to locate Roland and his warriors.
Sigrun hopes that by joining this noble House, she might do away with the
tarnish to her honor caused by being born into House Pendor.
